22 A.D. Roman Empire Bronze As, Emperor Augustus. Light wear and a strong strike, slightly off-center. Dark patina with some green deposits. 28mm diameter, 11.2g weight, bronze.

 

This coin was minted during the reign of Emperor Tiberius, Augustus' successor, to honor Augustus. The coin's inscription reads "DIVUS AUGUSTUS PATER" which translates to "Divine Augustus, Father (of Rome)."  The reverse inscription shows an altar, and reads "PROVIDENT" "S C" which translates to "Providence" (a Roman god) and "Senatus Consultus" ("by decree of the Senate").
