A small silver argenteus coin produced during the Roman Empire under the powerful Emperor Diocletian, sometime between 284-305 AD. The coin has very light wear, an extremely strong strike, is well-centered, and has light golden toning on both sides. The coin measures 18mm in diameter, about the size of a dime. The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of the emperor, while the reverse features Diocletian and his three partner-emperors making a sacrifice in front of the gates of a fortress. This coin is professionally authenticated and graded by NGC to be in Choice About Uncirculated (AU) condition.

At a critical turning point in the 3rd century A.D., Emperor Diocletian helped restore stability to an empire engulfed in civil war. He appointed three co-emperors to divide and share the burden of governing the massive empire, which by 284 spanned modern-day Britain, Spain, France, Italy, North Africa, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, and much of the Middle East. He was the first ever Roman emperor to peacefully abdicate the throne, choosing to retire and live out his days in a massive villa that still stands to this day in Croatia.
