Julius Caesar Ancient Roman Denarius, 48-46 BC, NGC AU, Aeneas Venus

A small silver coin produced during the Roman Republic under Gaius Julius Caesar. The coin has light wear, a strong, slightly off-center strike, and a dark, original patina with highlights of iridescent toning. The coin measures 18mm in diameter and weighs 3.76g. 

 

The obverse side of the coin features the bust of the Roman goddess Venus, who Caesar claimed as his ancestor, and the reverse side features the legendary Aeneas (another ancestor Caesar claimed) carrying his father to safety at the sack of Troy. This coin is professionally authenticated and graded by NGC to be in About Uncirculated (AU) condition.
